They just keep popping up

Three things to be happy about:
(1) Life-changing insights
(2) Scented baths
(3) Learning the Latin names of plants

In my office I have a "ZZ" plant that my friend Renea gave me for my birthday last January, and it has really fluorished!  See those two shoots near the right side of the pot?  I noticed them when I went back to work after the Christmas holidays, and I was only out of the office for 5 days!

Isn't that pretty?  The Latin name is Zamioculcas zamiifolia.  So now you know.

I'm still unearthing forgotten/abandoned blocks, why do I squirrel away so much stuff??

These blocks are from an internet swap; they are quite pretty so they deserve to be made into a hanging!  I have eleven blocks, who knows why I have that odd number.  I just need to make another one, decide on some sort of sashing (or not) and I can have a decent quilt.

I made the baskets below one spring just to make something.  If I remember correctly, I had run out of that particular red and didn't find any more that "exactly" matched, so it went into the forgotten file.
This was paper-pieced - here's a close up of one block:

So, why did I care so much about the red??  I can just go to my stash now and pull a red, if that's what I want to use, and finish this off.  Then I'll have a "new" quilt to grace my walls come spring.  Two, even!

  1. I have to chuckle about the Latin names. I grew up with them and when I moved to Japan I was glad to see by the names how new (to me) plants were related to familir ones. The head master of the school, however, stated that Latin names were only the way scientists showed off to each other. And he was an educator??!
Maybe a new rule for the year should be... if you flash those blocks, you have to do something with them.

  3. Hi Linda I use to have a large collection of plants and would try to remember the names of all of them some were tongue twisters trying to say them. I know what you mean about the weight of locs whew mines are getting a bit heavy and making me look like im going bald on the top lol. Have a great evening my friend

  4. Uh-oh, Julie, a challenge! I'm going to have a flash day in the not too distant future, just wait, LOL.

Madame, I like paper piecing because (for me) you get sharper points and you needn't worry about matching seams. I still have a challenge when the pattern says "sew with a scant quarter-inch seam line". One scant is always different from another one for me ... it's like an old fashioned cook saying "add one handful of this" or "put in some of that til it feels right!"

Some people do get confused by the flipping, though :o*(
