Guild meeting

When I walked into the guild meeting yesterday and saw a lot of people bunched around a table, I just knew something was in the air ...
Quilt seeds!  A member had sent in two large bags of strings and chunks and hunks of quilt seeds, ready to be planted into 30 or 40 new quilts!

We had wonderful show and tell at the meeting.

One member challenged herself to finish a block from her applique class ...

Another member made two quilts as a thank-you for a neighbor who takes in terminally ill dogs ...
T-shirt quilt

A cute cartoon dog quilt

A new member shared a medallion quilt she made from her deceased sister's fabrics...

A new quilter shared a very pretty disappearing 4-patch ...

Nine patches - set on point!

A scrappy quilt - love it!  The blocks were pieced onto phone book paper.

And last but not least, a fabric embellishment demo...

As usual, it was a great meeting and we all had a great time; sew forth and sew on til later ...

A visitor's indigo quilt, front ...

... and back!

a retreat quilt finish!

a visitor's baby quilt!

I hope you enjoyed the show.  We never know what will be shared at guild meeting, but it's always interesting and awe-inspiring!  Sew forth and sew on

Showing and sharing

We had our first guild meeting of 2018 on Saturday, a very interesting meeting!  In a workshop on organizing your sewing space, Rose shared some wonderful tips and tricks, such as placing dividers in a simple file box for storing extra needles, pins and other small items.  And how about placing seam rippers, small scissors, and rotary cutters in a divided pencil cup from the office supply section of Target?  Or keeping all your tool and gadget instruction sheets in one baggie or all your sewing machine manuals in a 3-ring binder?  Lots of great tips!

Here are three quilts that were shared:
Donette's memory quilt for a grandson

Angela's scrap quilt - scraps, gotta love em!!

Juanita's African Queen quilt

I just had my first medical visit of 2018, with the eye doctor.

Have you ever seen these multi-colored signs at your eye doctor?  Ever wondered what they mean??  Inquiring minds want to know, so I asked one of the technicians and she solved the mystery.

If the red is sticking out - the doctor is in the room with a patient
Yellow extended - a technician is prepping the patient for the doctor
Blue extended - the patient's eyes have been dilated
Red and yellow together - the patient is next in line to see the doctor
Red, yellow and green - the patient is second in line

So the mystery is solved!

According to this picture, a technician is working with a patient in the room on the left, the doctor is with a patient next door.  I didn't think to photograph more signs, but you get the idea.

That's it for now, have a great Monday.  Sew forth and sew on...

Closing out another great year

Marley was dead, to begin with.  There is no doubt whatever about that. Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail.
A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens

Saturday was my guild's last meeting of the year, and also our annual Christmas party.  We celebrated with holiday music, and gifts, and hugs, and games, and certificates, and door prizes.  We got to see friends we hadn't seen for a very long time - including two members who came all the way from Georgia and California just to help us celebrate!

At every Christmas party, everyone is encouraged to bring a favorite dish, so there's always an abundance of great food.  From the main dishes ...
to the desserts ...
we enjoyed every crumb!

But before that, we had a wonderful eye candy banquet, in the form of show and share.  I've chosen a few from the many quilts that were shared.

Angela was very clever - she combined two retreat round robin projects into one lovely quilt.  Front ...
and back ...

Charley finished her HST challenge that's due in September 2018!

Jennifer's sampler.  Visit Jennifer's Chronicles to see more of her work!

Cynthia is very fond of miniatures ...

A lovely fish quilt, front...
and back

Katherine shared her portrait of an African male (above) and her watermelon quilt (below).  She gave a lively and informative "tell" regarding African Americans and the watermelon stereotype.

Jackie's getting creative again ...

and scrappy!

And so another great year goes down in guild history, here's looking forward to an even greater year!  Have a wonderful Monday, sew forth and sew on...

Showing and sharing at the guild

Three things to be happy about:
(1) fall foliage
(2) choosing colors for a new project
(3) curly fries

It's been quite awhile since I shown any eye candy from our monthly guild meeting!  These beautiful quilts are some of the ones that were shared at Saturday's meeting:
Manger scene

large-scale prints surrounded by a series of frames

half-square triangles!

paper pieced stars

ladies, ladies everywhere

this was part of a red and white display

great use for jelly rolls

African masks

It's always great being there, seeing what everybody has been up to.  And that great "a-hah!" moment when something you see gets your creative juices flowing.  Enjoy your Monday, sew forth and sew on til later ...
