Those (annoying) little pop-ups

Hi everybody, I'm glad for you to see me, I gar-an-tee!  As you may have noticed, I've been blog-absent for over a week, how'd that happen???   I must've been on a blog diet, haven't even been reading the blogs in all that time!  I wonder what's been happening in blogland?

One annoying little pop-up I noticed is that when I had to sign in again, my view reverted back to the "new and impoved" enhanced version, which I don't like.  I'm trying to figure how to change it back.

How often do you change your needle??  I know, I know -- "new project, new needle" ... but what if you're working on 5-6 projects at once?  Does that mean 5-6 new needles?

Unfortunately, I forget to change mine until it either starts pulling the fabric or bends; I was finishing the quilting on this little wall hanging when mine bent because it had worked loose in the needle holder.

As you can see from the back view, there's only a little left to do so it shouldn't take long to finish...

And it's not as if I don't have needles!

Every time JoAnn's has a half price sale on needles, I grab a few packs and squirrel them away in my pretty little container "just in case" I need a new one some day.  So, today I'll also change the needle in my Janome, whether it needs it or not!

How often do you change your needle?  Is it based on hours of use?  projects?  Do you remove the needle and put it with the WIP?  I'd really like to know   :O)

Now I'm going to spend a little time surfing the blogs to see what I've been missing.  Have a great Tuesday; sew forth and sew on til later...

  1. I thought maybe you were on a vacation. Big near miss - the Table Topper Blog HOp - find the schedule on a lot of your buds blogs or go to MSamms blog for the daily line ups.

  2. Welcome back. You were missed. I try to change needles with every project, but it doesn't work because I always have 4 or 5 projects going on at the same time. So I change the needle when I start a new project, which is probably too long, but oh well.

  3. You were missed.
I change the needle on my Juki with each new project because I use it for quilting only. My Bernina which I use for piecing and everything else doesn't get changed as much.

  4. I usually change my needle when it breaks too, I also change it for different threads and feet, but put the old one back in after that project is done. I don't like pop-ups much either.

  6. Everybody is talking about the change in Blogger and I have been using the new interface for months now. Is that what you are talking about? You can click on the gear in the upper right corner and get back to the old blogger. The new one doesn't have all the choices in settings that the old one had so I have to go back now and then.

Changing needles--I probably use the same needle for a month and I do quite a bit of sewing. If I have any problems I change more often.

  7. Well, I'm a multiple project at a time kinda girl also. I don't think I change my needles often enough for piecing patchwork BUT for Free Motion Quilting I change needles with each project because if I forget the quilting doesn't come out so well. And I find it very difficult to keep track of how long it's been since a needle change on my piecing machine. And then I'm paranoid about disposing of the used needles....I know someone who lost her puppy because he ate a needle from the garbage and it wasn't found out until it was too late.....so I store all my old needles and bent pins in a tin box and am afraid to put them in the trash.....YIKES....

  9. I am struggling with the new blogger. The first time it appeared I got the old one back but this tie it looks like I have to bite the bullet or quit blogging. Good luck, and, if you have spare needles, go on and change them!

  10. I change my needle whenever I hear it start popping in the fabric. I use titanium coated needles, and they do last me a little longer. I think my needle changes average about every 12 to 15 hours of sewing.

  11. I'm bad. I don't change every project. I change when it starts pulling threads or not until it breaks. Hang my head in shame. ;o)
