A design op

Three things to be happy about:
(1) the weekend
(2) big bags for Goodwill
(3) Superbowl commercials

I'm not a football fan, but somebody out there must be happy about the Superbowl.  I say ... go for it!  If I get to see the commercials at half-time, I'll be satisfied.

I'm still moving fabric from point A to point B, and I found this piece of hand-painted fabric I got from a guild member ... years ago!
it's not as orange as it looks, the predominant color is a shade of red.

My first thought was to use it whole and create an art quilt, with a certain amount of thread painting.  I turned it this way and that way, looking for a logical design in the colors.  I can't see one, all I can see is "fire".

Looking at another angle, it looks slightly different...

What do you see now?  I see people in blue robes, pointing towards the sky.  But they're standing around in fire!

I'll have to give it more thought, see what pops up.  One idea was to cut it into 4, 6, or 9 pieces and work with those.

I also found a little piece of fabric that I can use with it ...
this is what's left from a piece of African fabric, there are 6 of these birds.  Because the fabric is the same on both sides, I can face them either way, to give me more design options.

I'm in no hurry to do anything with this one, just something that popped up while I was going through my stuff.  At some point I want to move it out, though ... get to steppin'

I'm going to see One for the Money today with a friend, then lunch (probably at Cheesecake Factory!).  I've been looking forward to seeing this movie ever since they announced filming about 2 years ago.  I read all of Janet Evanovich's "number" series up through #12 ... then they sort of lost their "umph" or something.  Anyway, I think this movie will be a good un!

Sew forth and sew on, have a great Saturday!

  1. I think those birds will add greatly to the scene. I don't think it would hurt the fabric to do a little cutting and inserting of birds.

  2. Hmmm.. I think I quit reading the S. Plum mysteries after about #12 as they "lost their umpf"

  3. What are you talking about? I'm current with the series and I didn't see any loss in the umpf!! How do you know they've lost umpf if you haven't read the last 6? I'm going to see the movie today as well. As for the fabric, I can't wait to see what you decide to do with it.

  6. I usually spend Super Bowl Sunday with the game on. I sew during the game & stop to watch during the commercials! lol
