I'm waving the flags!

Three things to be happy about:
(1) the giant HOLLYWOOD sign
(2) the ripple effect of kindness
(3) impressionist paintings

Yesterday while I was waiting in the dentist's office a sweet little lady came in and was looking around at the abstract paintings on the walls as she was waiting her turn at the counter.  I had to smile when she approached a 5 or 6 year old who'd just come from his appointment (his mom was at the counter) and asked him "do you like the paintings?"  He looked at her with a curious expression, then looked at the paintings and said "what paintings?"

Little kids are like a boxa choklits - you never know what you're gonna ge-yet.

I've slowed down a bit on sewing the En Provence mystery units, a lot of other stuff is popping into first place.

But I'm back working on it - here come the flags!

I was telling Gayle of Mangofeet that the skinny little tip on those QST units keep wanting to wiggle even though I hold onto them til the end - ouch!

My solution?  A smidge of Elmer's glue at the very tip - a little dab'll do ya!

Potato / po-tah-to

Whatever it takes, eh?

All I know is - it works for me!

So here are the units done so far ...

Six completed, plus enough flags pieced to make eleven more.

Thank goodness it's not a race!  I finished the 2015 mystery in February 2016, I talked about it in this post.

So I'm confident I can finish this one within two more months or so.

I also have another flag to fly - see that pretty neutral on top?

Leaving the dentist yesterday I remembered there was a little variety store close by that sold fabric.  I popped in to check for a few more neutrals, and I got lucky!

Not only had their fabric quality gone up, but their Christmas fabric was 50% off.  I got a total of 10 quarter-yard cuts; when she was toting up the price for the Christmas fabric she said "oh heck, I want to get rid of this!"  I had 7 sale pieces, she charged me $4 for the bunch!

Wave a flag today, you can find one someplace; sew forth and sew on...

The airin' o' the green

Three things to be happy about:
(1) nurturing creativity
(2) twinkling stars
(3) warm peach cobbler

Last week a friend was telling me all about the peach cobbler she made for Christmas dinner.  It's an Aretha Franklin recipe she found on the Food Network - man was my mouth watering!

Doesn't that look good, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream??

Gotta make me some!



When Bonnie released clue #6 to En Provence  last Friday, I wanted to shout "Green at last! Green at last! Thank lordamercy there's green at last!"

Looking at the green strips she was cutting though, I had to rethink my greens because I wasn't sure about some of the lighter ones.

Avocado ... avocado ... yellow-green?  Do these work??

I removed a couple that I wasn't sure would fit the bill and substituted a few different ones.

I'm ashamed to admit I made a trip to JoAnn's and got this fabric, after pledging to use my stash for this mystery!

But then after the final clue was released yesterday and I saw what the green has to do in the quilt - I felt lots, lots better about my selections!  There are still some that I'll eliminate from the En Provence  box, but for the most part I'm satisfied that I have a good variety, up and down within that avocado/yellow-green category.

My first instinct is to pretend the last clue isn't available yet, and finish clue #6; that's probably the best thing right now to keep focused, because for step #6 we only need to make sixty-four ... sixty-four ...

Resolutions

Three things to be happy about:
(1) new beginnings
(2) a cruise in mid-winter
(3) warm toes

First I want to wish each and every one of you a very happy and blessed New Year!

Some time ago I realized that whatever resolution I made for the new year - whatever it was - didn't make it through the first three or four months!  So, I simply stopped making them.  Now I just hang my new calendars showing the fresh new year and move right along.  Somewhere along the way if I pick up a good habit/attitude/whatever or drop a bad one, or complete something that needed doing, I consider it an item in the plus column for the year!

Here are some typical resolutions that didn't make it:

Resolution:  Keep track of my fabric usage - that didn't last long!  I talked about it here
and here

Resolution:  Finish one UFO a month - dropped it!  I blogged about that one here.  I did manage to finish some UFO's but it wasn't the "one a month" that I (and my guild) challenged!

Resolution:  Clean out my basement - toss out at least one bag of useless "stuff" or donate at least one bag of useful "things" a month.  Yeah, right!

In 2016 I only managed to donate two bags of clothing, and that wasn't until early last month!  But, I take credit for getting that much out of the house ... I'll do better this year, I promise.

Is a promise made on New Year's day the same as a resolution??
