Still working on my granny square blocks!
Yesterday I measured and gave a final trim to the ones I did previously.
Mostly they seemed to finish just shy of 9", so I settled on 8-3/4".
Just had to trim off a shnibble, but some of the points will have to suffer though.
I won't tell if you won't!
Only 28 blocks sewn and trimmed so far...
I timed myself this morning -
after laying out the pieces it takes about half an hour to do a block...

My favorite machine is my 40+ year old Singer "Touch & Sew Deluxe Zig Zag Sewing Machine Model 758."
I remember buying this machine before I had my first car, back in 1970! Had to bring it home to my apartment in a taxi, and it's still sewing strong.
That's it for now, have a great day... sew on and sew forth!
Loving your granny square blocks! Don't you just love those old vintage machines? We have one of those at our church quilt ministry group. Great machine! All metal gears and winds the bobbin INSIDE the bobbin area without taking it out. Wonder why they quit making machines that do that? Can't wait to see your finished quilt. LOVE reading your blog!

What a fun pile of blocks - glad to see you are sticking with them. You can't beat the older machines - I so miss my old New Home.
ReplyDeleteLove those grannies!
ReplyDeleteI bought my first machine in 1971 (a Singer 237), and it's still going strong. In fact, it's still my backup machine, having outlived several newer machines. Forwards, backwards, and zigzags. I don't often need anything else!
OH Linda! I had been missing you for months, then stopped checking, and viola` you came back and I missed out on a scrap bag giveaway!! ARGH! BTW....happy 6th Blogiversary. Now you've got me thinking about Granny Squares. It's good to have you back and I'll make sure I continue to check in. :)
