Eating and sailing and tasting!

Three things to be happy about:
(1) Pat's secret crab sauce
(2) whistling a happy tune
(3) clear weather

You ever been to Burdock, Maryland, on the Eastern Shore??  Me either!

But yesterday Shirley, Pat, Charlene and I got there after a two hour bus ride, where we climbed aboard the Dorothy & Megan for a 3-hour lunch cruise on the Choptank River past Suicide Bridge.

There was corn on the cob - so sweet! - cole slaw, fried clams, Maryland crab soup, deep fried chicken and of course, CRABS!!
I like crab meat, but the girls all agreed I'm not a "qualified" crab eater - I told Shirley that if I had someone sit beside me and pick out the meat for me, I'd gladly eat all the fresh steamed crabs I could hold!  As Shirley said to me, "That ain't gonna happen!"

But all the twisting and prying and banging and digging you have to do in order to get a tablespoon's worth of crab meat?  It just isn't worth it to me!   No wonder I prefer Alaskan crab legs!

My total crabs eaten: 1.

I think Tina was the all time winner - lookit that pile of shells!

We've had short powerful thunderstorms the last 3 or 4 days, but oh my was the weather beautiful yesterday!

Such pleasant, peaceful scenes from the top deck!

After the cruise we were taken to Layton's Chance vineyard and winery for a tour and wine tasting...

Besides the more than 1,000 acres of grapes for wine, the winery also grows corn and soy beans, which they give to Purdue Chicken.

But we were there because of the grapes, though - vines and more vines as far as the eye can see!

So I got a chance to do something new that I've never done before!

All in all it was a good day spent with good friends.

Can't get any better than that!

That's it for now, have a great Saturday, smile at someone, sew forth and sew on til later!

  1. If I had been there I could have given Tina a run for her money. MMMmmm crab, I think I could eat it until they ran out.

  2. I'm allergic to shell fish, so I would not have enjoyed that meal. BUT what an exciting and interesting trip and great pic of you - smile on.

  3. Wonderful friends, beautiful weather and a bounty of Maryland foodie goodness. Your trips always sound so peaceful and adventurous at the same time.

  4. Yumm, I love crabs but they do not love me anymore. You find so many interesting things to do. Thanks for taking us along.

  5. Looks like you had plenty of fun.

Thanks so much for your comment, I like getting feedback! I can't promise to respond by email, but I do appreciate your visit.
