Welcome to December! Besides the Christmas holidays, two wonderful things are happening this month: (1) the next book in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series (Written in My Own Heart's Blood) is due out, and (2) I make the last payment on my car, yaaaaay! Man, it feels great to be debt-free! The car dealership where I bought the car in December 2010 has been calling, emailing and writing me for months to come in and trade up, they can give me a great deal at the same monthly payments I'm making now, blah blah blah. Not yet, please!! I did want and still do want a car that gives me more height off the ground (SUV/CRV, etc.), but let me breathe free air for a minute, sheesh!

Moving right along...
I meant to show you the quilt ("Scrap Crystals") we worked on during the August 2013 Alaska cruise with Bonnie Hunter. I'm wearing two of the quarter blocks, Bonnie and Renea are holding tiny little sub-units. The block, released this month in the latest Quiltmaker's 100 blocks, finishes at 16 inches and it's all made from 2" strips using the Easy Angle ruler.

It's really an easy block to make and if you've worked on Bonnie's quilts, especially the mysteries, you know about the small sub-units that go into some of her quilts - it's all worth it in the end! I've finished 16 of the 20 blocks that make up the quilt.

August in Alaska was chilly, my fleece jacket felt mighty good!
How soon we forget - I think this picture of Renea and me was taken outside a shop, on a street in Ketchikan.
I liked this horse and buggy transport in Ketchikan(?), from Rushin' Tailor's Quilt Alaska.
Bouchard Gardens in Victoria, Canada, were lovely - I'd like to visit there again when I have time to explore more.
At their coffee shop I saw these scones, and I had to try a gen-u-ine Canadian cranberry scone!
Between you and me, I like them better from Whole Foods here in the District - besides, they're cheaper!
