Red and White, Too

Yesterday was opening day for the Red and White, Too quilt exhibit at the Art Enables off Rhode Studio, 2204 Rhode Island Avenue, NE, DC.  Man oh man, talk about some red and white eye candy!!!

I knew it was going to be a nice display but when seen all together, the quilts are stunning.  Look at this one - African Suns  (on the right) - by Carolyn Burgess, it's gorgeous.

This closeup shows the great piecing and quilting detail in one of the blocks

each block has an adinkra symbol in the center.

And look at this one - In My Blood

I especially like some of the detail Tambra added with beads and buttons

Quick Response, below left by Renea Bailey, was inspired by the QR codes used for adding web links to a printed page, great inspiration!

And on the right is Confetti by Nadine Mills; she used a great selection of red and white fabrics for this exhibit, such as in Line Art, below.

The "X" quilt in the forefront was made by Jackie Stafford.  More than 1200 pieces in this quilt, with 1080 cut on the bias!

Scrap attack!

... and based on the amount I started with and the amount I have now, it's anybody's guess who's winning!

I've been making string blocks for the Scrap Attack Strings quilt along, and they're so fuss free!

You can't go wrong with string blocks no matter how you make them!  At this point I've done 24 blocks, which puts me way beyond the 2 a week Chrissy was aiming for; I didn't show the 7 untrimmed ones.  As I was looking at them, I had to laugh because I'm still using some of the strips I cut for the Orca Bay mystery...

See this Christmas print, and the alphabets in the back?  I have a good mix going on here! 

And because I was feeling industrious while looking at TV, I sorted some strips by length into containers for the first three positions on the block - immediately next to the white center strip, next to that, and next to that. 

It's a small thing I know, but if I can just reach into a container and know that strip will be long enough for where I want to put it, it'll save a few seconds.  Seconds become minutes, minutes become hours, hours become a quilt.  Or UFO, or whatever.

One for the Money

... thank goodness!

I saw "the" movie yesterday at White Flint and I have four words to say:  DISS A POINT MENT - sorry Maddy!  It wasn't just my opinion either ... my friend thought it would have been okay as a TV movie.  I agree! 

As we were leaving the theater and I was on my way to the restroom, this little lady rushed up to me and said "what did you see??!"  When I told her it was One for the Money she says "oh! I saw that this week, I was sooo disappointed!  I've read the entire series and I was looking forward to the movie, but I felt like asking for my money back!" 

So there you have it - three people's opinions  :o)  But if you want to know what I think is the best part of the movie?  I think it's the trailer...
