Hi everybody! First I want to thank you one and all for your kind comments and well wishes regarding my brother-in-law. There's never a good time to lose a loved one, but it helps to know other people are thinking about you. :o)
I want to share just a few pictures with you from the Alaska cruise, I didn't take too many though (sometimes I'm so busy gawking at things I forget to take pictures!).
As we pulled into Ketchikan (our first stop) at 7 am, the stores were open and waiting for us! Renea and I wanted to sample the local flavor, and walking through the shopping district near the pier was a great way to do it.
Couldn't resist taking a photo with Mr. Moose! See those jackets? It was right chilly!
Of course we had to include a visit to the Silver Thimble quilt shop! I don't have any pictures but they had great Alaska-themed fabrics, and kits by local designers.
In bygone days, Alaska was known for it's brothels to service the gold miners, trappers and other workers - with Creek Street in Ketchikan being one of the most notorious areas! Most of them are now being used as shops; a few were kept intact for tours...
(Some of the shots above were taken in Skagway)
For lunch, Renea, Cathy and I took a trolley up the mountain to the Cape Fox Lodge, where we had some really great halibut - simply delicious!
We thought this sign was funny!
Cape Fox Lodge had some beautiful totems, including the Council of the Clans totems by Tlingit carver Lee Wallace
After lunch, another stroll through the downtown area back to the ship - an interesting day in Ketchikan!
Looking towards the pier - our ship looks as big as a building!
That's enough for now - sew forth and sew on til later!
I so want to go on this cruise! Now that we live in Seattle, we keep saying that we'll take a last-minute one. Now the only trick is to get the time off when the ships are leaving.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you two had fun! Wish I were there with y'all!
I believe the Norwegian has one more cruise to Alaska this, then the ship(s) will be redirected to sunnier waters!
DeleteOk Linda....it's been a month since I've "heard" from you.....starting to get worried.....hope you're well and things are ok.
